The Vida Darko Mensah Foundation was founded in memory of our mother, who believed in education as a means of advancing one's self in life. Auntie Vida as she was fondly called by friends, was a midwife who loved all children. Although she had six biological children, she also dedicated her time and shared her love and compassion with the children in communities where she was active. She motivated and financially supported many children and contributed to the education of extended family and friends.
Vida believed that there was no such thing as 'I can’t' , and that every thing could be achieved with hard work. Her two favorite quotes were "No condition is permanent." and "There is nothing you can’t do, if you put your mind to it." She instilled these philosophies in all of her children and always demanded the very best from us, in everything we did.
As her children, we hope to continue her legacy through the Vida Darko Mensah Foundation, by supporting the enrichment of Black and Latino children in inner city communities, one school at a time.
